On June 5, 2017, Steve Harold assumed the duties of Athletic Director at Warren Local High School.  The Glenville, West Virginia native returns to the Mid-Ohio Valley area after a ten-year hiatus, and does so taking on a new, but somewhat familiar role.  Harold previously served 5 years as the Athletic Director at Glenville State College in the early 2000’s.

Harold is no stranger to athletics and the coaching ranks.  He has spent the past 27 years exclusively at the college level leading the Athletic Department, the Intramural program, teaching in the Physical Education program, and/or coaching basketball (both men and women), cross country, and track & field.  To area residents, he is most notably remembered as the architect of the perennial power Glenville State College Lady Pioneer Basketball program.  During his 12 year tenure at the helm of the women’s basketball program, Harold’s teams amassed 262 victories, posted 20 wins or more eight times, won 5 Conference regular season & 3 tournament championships, won 64 consecutive games at home, and competed in 6 straight NCAA tournaments, including two Elite 8’s.  Harold’s school record 33 wins in his final season culminated in him being honored as NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year.

Following his historic run at Glenville, Harold moved on to Springfield, Missouri and NCAA II Drury University, and, in six seasons, enjoyed two Conference championships and five trips to the NCAA tournament.  His teams compiled a 129-52 record, winning GLVC West Division titles four times, and advanced to the Sweet 16 during the 2009-10 season.

After his successful stint at Drury, Harold moved the family to Saint Joseph’s College in Indiana, where he spent four seasons rebuilding a long-struggling program, returning it to post-season play in 3 of his 4 seasons.  The school’s subsequent closure on May 6, 2017 forced the relocation of Harold and his family and the end to his storied coaching career.  In his 22 year coaching career, Harold has established a career record of 439-225.  He sits 19th among active coaches with his 439 victories and 28th in winning percentage (.661).  He ranks in the top 50 for all-time wins in his career.  Harold has been honored with 8 National, Regional, State, and Conference Coach of the Year awards.

In being named the new Athletic Director at Warren High School, Harold said:  “I would like to thank the Warren Local School Board, Superintendent Kyle Newton, Principal Ben Cunningham, and committee members Ryan Lemley and Larry Ryan for showing faith in me to lead the Warren Athletics program during this important and exciting time of new construction with the levy passage.  I am excited to ‘work with’ the administration, coaches, student-athletes and their parents, and the community in advancing Warren Athletics.  I look forward to this new chapter in my Athletics career, and I couldn’t be happier returning to the area where I can be closer to my family and friends in West Virginia.”

Harold received his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and Business Education in 1987 from Glenville State College and his Masters of Science Degree in Physical Education and Health from Radford University in 1990.

Harold and wife Renee have two daughters – Katie (28), a graduate of Saint Joseph's College (IN) and a teacher in the Jackson County (WV) school system, and Allie (24), a graduate of West Virginia University School of Nursing and employed by Ruby Memorial in Morgantown.  In December 2020, Steve and Renee became the proud grandparents of Kaelyn Rachelle Knight, daughter of Katie.  The Harolds reside in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
